2006 saw us joining forces with Cinefest, a new Latin American Film Festival and the new Borders Reading Group. The festival is not just about books and 2006's theme of interactivity show-cased eclectic events fused with dating, food and animals. More details can be found on the 2006 Events page.

We were also part of a network of individuals and organisations that is transforming Bournemouth's perception (by quite a majority) as a 'cultural desert'. Wait no further! Because, there is now 'Bomo Creatives, a new monthly social and business networking club that brings together artistic and creative minds. The group meets every third Wednesday of the month at the new All Fired Up Cafe at 35-37 Bourne Avenue, Bournemouth Square (a few yards from Borders). Friday 10 November - Meet A Top London Publisher, 7 pm
We are delighted to announce that Mitzi Angel, a publisher at Fourth Estate (an imprint of HarperCollins) will be the speaker at our Meet A Top London Publisher event. Fourth Estate is one of the most innovative imprints in the industry. HarperCollins is one of the top book publishing groups in the UK and home to several award-winning best-selling authors. Over a glass of wine and canapes, the idea behind the event will be to offer hot tips, encouragement, an overview of publishing industry and question and answers. 20 October - Guy Browning's Office Politics and Comedy Night

18 Oct - Meet a Cat Whisperer, an evening with Vicky Halls, author of 'Cat Counsellor', 6.30 pm

Read Dating for the over 50s - Tuesday 18 July 2006, 6.30 pm
You've heard of speed dating well now the new craze is read dating.  Come along with your favourite book and tell others why you like it so much. Venue is Costa coffe bar (upstairs in Waterstone's) in the Arcade.  Tickets £10 and include hot drink and cake. 2006 Short Story Competition, deadline for entries 31 July 2006
£100 first prize, £50 second prize, winner published on website. Judge is Ian Burton, local novelist and creative writing tutor. THEME: a story about or set in Bournemouth, not exceeding 1,000 words. RULES: entries in English, typed, double spaced with 1 inch margins and must be original work of author and not previously published. Entrants names must not appear on submission but should be accompanied by a top sheet with name, address, telephone number and email address. By entering competition, writers will have been deemed to offer first publication rights to appear in any Bournemouth Literary Festival's publications and website. To enter please send cheque for £5, made payable to Bournemouth Literary Festival and send to: Short Story Competition, 49 Priestley Road, Bournemouth BH10 4AW. Entries will not be returned. Decision of judge is final and correspondence will not be undertaken.

Cyrano de Bergerac Patisserie Evening - 25 April at 3 pm
In the famous French comdey Cyrano de Bergerac (famoulsy played by Gerard Depardieu), Cyrano the poet soldier with the big nose has a friend called Ragueneau who invites all the poor writers and artists into his patisserie to 'stuff their faces'. A Celebration of Anglo Welsh Poetry - 11 April 2006 at 3 pm 
Renown Welsh poet, Cefnab, is staging a one-day poetry showcase mingled with music and images of the Welsh landscape at Jumpin Jaks bar (inside the IMAX building on Bournemouth seafront).
